Through its investment arm, the New York-based Wafra International Investment Company acquired a minority stake in Digital Colony Management, a digital investment management company owned by the global investment firm Colony Capital, for $ 400 million. 
Analyze Markets website reported that, as part of the deal, Wafra will also provide capital commitments for current and future investment products for Digital Colony to achieve growth and further expansion. The Wafra investment, which manages $ 25 billion in assets for Digital Colony, provides permanent capital to advance strategic investments in the digital infrastructure ecosystem, including cell towers, data centers, fibers and small cells. The parties have not disclosed the stake acquired in the deal, but Colony Capital plans to use the proceeds to invest in digital infrastructure assets and grow its business in managing digital investments by expanding and launching its own "franchise". Analyze Markets website added that this is not the first time that Wafra has invested in Colony Digital, as it invested in 2017 in Digital Bridge, a subsidiary of Colony Digital, and also supported the company’s launch of the Colony Partners Digital Fund worth $ 4.1 billion. BFA Securities and Fried Frank worked as financial and legal advisors to Wafra, while Sullivan and Cromwell and Morgan Lewis provided legal advice to Digital Colony. Last month, Wafra co-led a $ 320 million financing round for TierPoint, which provides data center services based in St. Louis.
